Photo Group will set up a dedicated suite of computers at the
Edinburgh Media Centre to allow people to download camera cards, scan
in negs or prints and archive pictures to CD.
We'll set up a process where pictures are automatically resized
before uploading to newswire.
We'll also keyword selected images and place these in an image bank
where they can be found and accessed both during and after the event.
Only screen resolution images will be available to minimise misuse by
unsuitable publications, but the keywording system will include
contact details (where the author is in agreement) to allow users to
contact them by e-mail for printable versions.
The picture desk facility will be mirrored where possible in the
rural convergence and at major actions via the satellite truck.
We will leaflet anyone carrying a camera before and during events to
publicise the service to people on the streets.
Two members of the group are writing guidelines on ethics and legal
matters for independent photographers. As part of this we are
developing a policy and what should be photographed and published,
along with a policy on blurring faces.
One group member has also undertaken to re-write the "help" page and
to extend this into a separate "how to" covering photo techniques
such as resizing, cropping and colour balance.
We are continuing to develop the process on the imc-photo list
(subscribe at http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-photos)
but if we consider anything to be contentious we'll offer it up for
opinion on the imc G8 list.
