"Balance transferring and spending on the same credit card is usually a big mistake. A sneaky trick that most credit card providers play is attaching a different rate of interest to each type of transaction (BTs, Purchases etc), and then allocating your payments so that you pay off the cheapest debt first. This means, for instance, that if you transferred onto the card at 0% and made a purchases at 19.9%, you would have to pay back all of the balance transfer debt first before you could repay the purchase (which would rapidly accrue huge interest in the mean time).
