2008 was a brutal year for Houston, We've seen raids and deportations, at
Shipley's and Action Rads USA, the resumption of Huntsville's death
chamber, the most active death row in the country. We've seen Hurricane
Ike wallop Houston and do serious damage to Galveston, as well as the
aftershocks of contractors that don't pay their workers and the University
of Texas cutting jobs in Galveston. And the year ended with the Israeli
bombing and invasion of Gaza, and the discovery that a social justice
activist that has been working in Texas and Louisiana for years has been
working as an FBI Informant.
Though all of this, Houston Indymedia has been covering these stories, and
providing a forum for activists and community members to get their stories
out. With our website (http://houston.indymedia.org) and weekly radio
show, on 7:30pm every Friday on KPFT 90.1fm, as well as our monthly(ish)
film series at Rice Cinema, our volunteer collective has been producing
and distributing media for social and economic justice.
We invite you at the start of 2009 to check out the coverage we produced
last year, and invite you to participate and support us in this coming
year.
Here is our 2008 year in review:

Houston Indymedia kept busy with 103 local news features in 2008! The
Houston Indymedia Web Team uses articles and content published to the HIMC
newswire by DIY journalists and community activists to construct features
for our central column. Thanks to the legion of people in Houston and
elsewhere that published their news to Houston Indymedia, and the social
justice movements in Houston that wage struggles worth reporting. We are
all journalists!
If you like the work we are doing, HELP US OUT!

February, a big noise film festival in March, celebrations for the 10th

coverage of events taking place in Houston.
