4) This week's summary
of under-reported news

Compiled by Bob Nixon

• Chad has cut off diplomatic relations with Sudan after failed rebel
attack on the capital city of N'Djamena and Darfur refugee camps in
Chad.
• The Guardian newspaper reports two United Nations agencies -- the
International Atomic Energy Agency and the World Health Organization are
ignoring new evidence of thousands of new cancer cases caused by the
Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident nearly 20 years ago.
• American Prospect magazines reports there is a simple, cost-effective
solution to fix the massive problems with Plan D, the Bush
administration's Medicare drug plan: get rid of private insurance
companies in the Medicare system, charge a small co-payment for drugs,
and let the federal government negotiate directly with drug companies
for bulk discounts like the Veterans Administration does.
