Help the CMAC fix our roof

The Creative Minds Arts Center, a small community arts and social center 
located on the historic Troost corridor in Kansas City, Missouri, is 
looking for financial donations, materials and volunteers to help us fix 
our roof. The Crossroads Infoshop and the 816 Bike Collective are 
located inside the CMAC building, so fixing the leaky roof is an urgent 
priority for us. As many of you have seen, the building has great 
potential, but we can't make headway with our renovations to the 
building until we fix the roof. We have to fix the roof this summer or 
the building will eventually become totally unusable. On the other hand, 
if we fix the roof, we can fix up the bathrooms, the theater, the disco, 
the computer lab and the rest of the facility.

Fixing the roof is, unfortunately, not a weekend DIY project. We will 
try to use volunteer labor and materials as much as possible, but to fix 
the roof correctly, we will need to buy special materials and hire 
people with experience. The estimates we've gotten from various 
professionals put this project in the $20,000 range. This is why we are 
casting a large net around Kansas City to encourage people to donate to 
this project.

In the past week, we've raised a bit over $200 through online donations. 
We found a professional roofer who came by and looked at the roof. He is 
going to give us a precise estimate on materials and will hopefully help 
us coordinate the work on the roof. We've already identified several 
crucial interim fixes that will help us slow down the building's roof 
problems.

Donations can be made via PayPal or checks can be made out to "Tycor." 
Tycor is the nonprofit which sponsors the yearly Troost Festival. Your 
donation to Tycor is tax deductible.
