Hi, my name is Chris Filippone and I am currently teaching English and
living in Jochiwon, South Korea. I am 23 years old from Philadelphia in the
United States. For the past 3 years in Philadelphia I have worked as a
political activist with an organization called the Media Mobilizing Project
(http://mediamobilizing.org/).
We have built a space where workers of all backgrounds can come together,
realize their common struggle, and produce media that puts their perspective
in the spotlight. It is through this process of media production that
relationships are built and a movement to end poverty is grown. We have
produced numerous videos around the struggles of working people and worked
directly with the Philadelphia Indy Media Center. In fact, the Philadelphia
Indy Media Center is intertwined with our organization.
Before coming to Korea 8 months ago I worked on a documentary called
"Driving the American Dream" on Philadelphia taxi workers struggling to get
health and workers' compensation benefits (http://blip.tv/file/2749907/). I
have good video production and editing skills as well as intermediate
audio/radio skills. I don't have video equipment in Korea, but I recently
purchased an audio recorder (Marantz PMD660) and some microphones. I am
trying to get better producing audio/radio projects.
My reason for emailing is that I would really like to get involved with the
Korean Indy Media Center. I believe I have the skills and organizing
experience to be able to help the movement to end poverty. I've realized
that the struggles in Philadelphia and Korea come from the same source:
neoliberal capitalism. Thus, it only makes sense to work together and build
a relationship that can carry globally and counteract economic
globalization.
If I have emailed the wrong person then please direct me to the right
email. The indy media website said to get involved through the blog, but
I'm not sure which person to email.
I hope this email finds you well.
Peace and Thanks,
Chris Filippone
