ENO presents Philip Glass's Satyagraha Gandhi's search for truth
English National Opera presents the London stage premiere of Philip
Glass's Satyagraha in a stunning new production by Improbable
(Shockheaded Peter, The National Theatre's Theatre of Blood, Wolves
in the Wall).
As India marks her 60th year of independence, this hauntingly
beautiful ensemble piece based on Mahatma Gandhi's early years in
South Africa explores how the spiritual leader developed non-violent
protest into a powerful force for change.
Philip Glass is also famed for his award-winning film scores
including The Hours, The Truman Show and Koyaanisqatsi. He was
nominated for a 2007 Oscar for his score to Notes on a Scandal,
starring Judi Dench and Cate Blanchett.
'The most important living composer' Rolling Stone Magazine
'The most powerful composer of our time' The Daily Telegraph
'The most spiritually exhilarating opera composed since World War
II' Time Magazine
'The music of Satyagraha takes you on a journey... a multi-layered
sensory experience' Director, Phelim McDermott
