I am not into setting up server space for other groups - it is not
that hard for groups to set up their own sites and once we do it for
2 we would have to offer it to all and that is a massive job/server
space. I think indymedia has enough on its plate to sort our selves
out! Of course we can offer training and advice but that could just
be a page on the site ...

Also there will always be the question of 'independence' and the
arguments over who we would offer space to is endless as this one
shows...

>>Political Groups? (would we want to invite people from say,
>>the SWP?)
>errr...? i would say yes, invite them - so long as they don't try
>and sell their newspapers. talking is good, even with (especially
>with) people we don't fully agree with - but we're all against the
>war, against imperialism, against capitalism, against racism...

We should not be inviting political groups in my opinion - if
individual from these groups get invilved - great - if these groups
want to use the site - great - but there is no need for an official
SWP/ etc invite - we will be launching indymedia and outreaching for
groups to use it - not to link as groups to indymedia.

All groups involved in the network have to respect the
non-heirachcical nature of indymedia - our basic principle are not up
for discussion - Indymedia has a political position as set out in our
texts .

Anyway to be a bit more practical - lets start making this list of
groups /projects/ networks to contact and see what we come up with:
and maybe split them into catagories so we can be a bit more
selective about who we contact about what and when...

My suggested catagories would be:

Campaigns: EG. Anti racist / stop terminal 5 / rising tide / critical
mass / GM / any issue ...

Associates: Alternative media / tech groups / video / radio /
publications EG. concious cinema / urban 75 / com tec / squall /
social centres / etc

And then there are -

Indymedia volunteers: As we will always need new people - who want to
work on this project, who need training, will discuss ideas and do
the many things needed to do with the indymedia project: Our radio /
screenings / talks / videos / outreach / publications... etc

For me i think the meeting in July is to invite all the Associates
and Indy volunteers to the meeting - and when we do outreach later we
do it to get the Campaigns to use the site.

Cheers tony
