Draft diversity statement has been sent to the list. Feedback would be
good. Some time tomorrow, if no one else has managed to do it in the
meantime, I'll try to remember my log-in and create a wiki page for it.

My suggestion is that we put 'how to get involved' on a wiki page, and
draft some text that will appear:
(1) under a 'get involved' tab on the main menu of our front page, once
the fork has happened
(2) somewhere on the new site publish page, so people who contribute are
invited to find out more about getting involved when they post an
article (ie the invite will appear whether or not they click 'get
involved'. If nothing else, it will raise awareness that there is a
group of people who look after the site, and that membership of this
group is open to people who post to the site.

Something like: 'We want the people looking after this site to reflect
the diversity of people using it to post their news. We reject all
systems of domination and discrimination and particularly welcome
involvement from those who are oppressed and marginalised within the
mainstream. We work right across the British Isles and welcome anyone
who agrees with our Mission Statement [link] and supports our Editorial
Guidelines [link]. If you would like to find out more about how you can
become involved in the mayday collective, please contact us at [email
address].'

Maybe need also to say something about how the new-imc process is not
ideally suited to collectives already running sites. In effect, the new
site will carry on where uk leaves off, and we've been looking after
that for years.

We decided that the best course of action would be to condense future iRC scripts into key discussions, proposals, and decisions. The minutes would then be posted to the imc-mayday-collective email where amendments can be made by all other collective members. In order to provide full transparency, we will also post links to all the meeting minutes on the IMC Mayday collective wiki page here: (https://docs.indymedia.org/Local/ImcMayday) so that all the meeting minutes are easily accessible without it being necessary to navigate the imc-mayday-collective email list archive.

We have created a wiki page at https://docs.indymedia.org/Local/ImcMaydayOrganisationalStatus [this needs to be created] so we have a document detailing our progress through the new IMC process. Please find below the current progress of our new IMC application.

additional detail - in attached file)

Add: We believe that we cannot reasonably expect new members to join us
until the fork of uk indymedia is successfully completed. Nevertheless,
unlike most new imcs, we are in the position of already looking after a
busy newswire which is used by diverse individuals and groups and we
therefore already have the potential for recruiting new collective
members. We propose to add an invitation for site users to get involved
with mayday indymedia that will appear on our publish page as well as
being accessible from the front page main menu. This will be put in
place once the fork has been completed, reaching out to existing site
users who may be interested in becoming more involved in the collective
running of the site. We are not in a position to make any such changes
until the new site is in place.

I think 'enjoy' is a bit strong! I'd suggest replacing the above
sentence with: 'We hope that this gives a fuller and clearer picture of
our documented progress as a collective.'
