Hi

Is everyone aware of this email?:
http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/listwork/2011-May/0526-ei.html

Jimdog is offering Listwork interpretation and suggestions for
implementation of Northern's proposal to remove Mayday indymedia
privileges including access to lists (see below). I suggest we write to
Listwork expressing our concerns and asking them to consider whether he
is a suitable person to be a 'Listworker'.

---------------------------

Extract from Jimdog's email:

"I think that the main thrust of the decision that was made... was that there needs to be some
consequences for what has happened as a tool to get the mayday collective
back to the negotiating table. From our perspective, they have taken the
site and domain that belongs collectively to the UK Indymedia network for
themselves, and are continuing to use shared Indymedia resources such as
the mailing lists to administer it (even recently requesting new lists).
As such, this proposal was aimed at ensuring that these shared resources
would be unavailable to them until they have agreed to abide by the
principles of the network as set out in the POU and agreed by every
affiliated Indymedia centre.

"In practical terms, this would mean temporarily closing all imc-mayday-*
lists and either also placing all imc-uk-* lists on hold or removing
members of that collective from them...

"The major problem to this being a self-achieved solution is that members
of the mayday collective are either moderators or admins on all of these
lists, and I feel that the spirit of the proposal that my collective made
means that this should not be the case.

"In terms of Listwork... I think the steps I have outlined above would
be appropriate for implementation of this decision.

-------------------------

I propose that we send an email from the Mayday collective to Listwork along the lines of:

"Mayday Indymedia collective notes the comments from Jimdog to Listwork [http://lists.indymedia.org/pipermail/listwork/2011-May/0526-ei.html]
in relation to proposals made by Northern England imc to the imc-process list [link?].

"We wish to express our serious concerns about these comments and, specifically, that Jimdog is asking Listwork to undertake measures which will exclude indymedia activists from lists.
These measures are being proposed not in response to alleged abuse of the lists, but as a tool to try to 'force' members of the Mayday collective to behave in a particular way.

"We consider that this demand is inconsistent with the POU, is an abuse of process, will create unnecessary work for Listwork admins and has no chance whatsoever of producing Jimdog's desired result.

"In view of this behaviour, we are writing to ask you to seriously consider whether or not Jimdog is a suitable person to be a Listworker. We believe he is not."

OK, that's my suggestion. What do people think?

cheers

genny
