Dear Friends,
I received the following email from Jeanette Smith of the American Friends
Service Committee. Sounds like a good way to spend a Saturday evening!
Jack
Emerge Miami is a great group started by students from local universities in
an effort to support the activist movement and create a culture of activism
where like minds can join together for social events. Come spend a few hours,
if you can. I know that you’ll enjoy it as a lot of effort has been put into
making this a fun event.
WHAT: SCREENING OF THE CORPORATION, VEGETARIAN POTLUCK, CREATIVE CRAFTS AND
GOOD PEOPLE!
WHERE: SWEAT RECORDS: 2320 NE 2ND AVENUE, MIAMI
WHEN: SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 10TH.
DOORS OPEN 6:00 P.M. FILM BEGINS AT 8:00 P.M. PLEASE COME EARLY TO BRING
YOUR DISH AND PARTICIPATE IN DISCUSSIONS, ACTIVITIES!
WHO: HOSTED BY EMERGE MIAMI, AND THE WONDERFUL FOLKS AT SWEAT RECORDS
WHY: TO HONOR AND BRING TOGETHER THE HARD WORKING PROGRESSIVE COMMUNITY OF
SOUTH FLORIDA
COST: $0 (HEY, WE’RE NOT A CORPORATION! WE’RE DOING THIS FOR YOU!!)
VEGETARIAN POTLUCK. PLEASE BRING A DISH/SNACK/DRINK,ETC.*
If you are not able to bring a dish or food item, don’t let it stop you from
coming!
This event will be very special, with creative crafts, music, time to
talk/mingle/share and enjoy some wonderful vegetarian and vegan food as well as the
screening of an excellent film: The Corporation. We could think of no
better film to show at an event meant to bring the progressive community together
since it reveals how our current “corporate ideology” is preying upon every
aspect of our world: the environment, worker’s rights, poverty issues, labor,
public health, women’s rights, etc. and shows how we are really all fighting
a different part of the same big battle.
We believe that spending time around others who are working to make this
world a better place- whether that be through working for a non-profit, playing
music, being an artist, an activist, or just being an aware consumer- brings
us comfort, courage, strength and inspiration, and it doesn’t happen nearly
enough.
Emerge proposes to take on the task to create the times and spaces for these
connections to happen. We will have time at some point during the evening
for a talking circle (or breaking up into several smaller talking circles
depending on how many attend) at which time you can share news, information,
upcoming events, thoughts, inspirations, or whatever else you would like to be
known!
Also we are going to have a specific table dedicated to sign up sheets for
mailing lists and upcoming events for all the different organizations in
attendance. Please bring a sign up sheet or let us know what you want on it and we
’ll make one for you!
I’d love to see you there.
Blessings,
Jeanette

Best Regards,
Jack Lieberman
