What I've experienced over the last week has changed my life. And there
is still so much more to do.
Activists are in DESPERATE NEED of human and material resources here in
southern Louisiana and southern Mississippi.
With many areas of the coast NOT REACHED BY ANY RELIEF AT ALL, it is
frustrating to see energy and fundraising for a trip to a symbolic
political protest in DC. If the progressive movement had a concience,
there would be a mass action of people down here trying to save lives
and prevent the ethnic cleansing of communities. Why aren't you here?
We need supplies, medics, money, and people willing to do hard work in a
community-based setting. You may be providing the first medical care,
hot food, supplies, compassion and respect many of these people have
seen since the hurricane hit 16 DAYS AGO.
If you have the time and means to go to DC, I beg you to come to NOLA
and Mississippi instead.
Volunteers can come in person to the Common Ground Relief center in the
Algiers neighborhood of New Orleans. Call 512-297-1049 for directions
and details. Donations can be sent to Common Ground, PO Box 3216,
Gretna, LA 70054. Please pace your donations. Please no clothes or food.
Our action website will be up and running soon at
http://www.commongroundrelief.org.
Lead with your heart.
Work hand in hand.
Come to Algiers.
Make a difference.
