Subject: [SFPJN] You are cordially invited to the Photography is a First Amendment Right fundraiser

          As many of you know, I was arrested for photographing police against their wishes in February. 

In arresting me, they tackled me and bashed my head against the sidewalk, breaking a $400 in the process. Then they charged me with nine misdemeanors and threw me in jail for 16 hours, claiming that I had been standing in the middle of the street when a photo later revealed that the street was behind them.

The truth is, I was arrested because I did not back down from their intimidation tactics when they were violating my First Amendment Rights. 

But legal representation is not cheap, which is why a portion of proceeds from the Photography is a First Amendment Right fund raiser will go towards my legal fees. 

A portion will also go towards the Society of Professional Journalists Legal Defense Fund, which aids reporters and photographers nationwide in defending the freedom of speech and press guaranteed by the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Grace Cafe and Galleries, 49 North Federal Highway in Dania Beach.

A silent auction will feature several of my photos, including a few from my Cuba trip last year as well as photos from several other South Florida photographers.
