Democrats must vote NO on the supplemental. Please call Rep. Wasserman Schultz now and insist that she hold firm against the president and vote against this weak bill.

I called Congress Dear MoveOn member,
Democratic leaders were facing the president down on summer funding for the Iraq war. But they just blinked. When the president offered weak "benchmarks," Democratic leaders compromised and gave up on real timelines to end the war, which were key to progressive support. This is a failure of leadership.
A House vote on this weak bill could come as soon as today. Yes, there'll be another Iraq spending bill coming up in July, for fall funding. But Democrats need to hold firm now, so they'll be in a position to pass strong legislation when Republicans start to desert the president this summer.
Democrats must vote NO on the supplemental offered tomorrow. This is a key test vote on whether your representative is serious about ending the war. Please call Rep. Wasserman Schultz now and insist that she hold firm and vote against this weak bill.

And while Congress was compromising with the White House, the president quietly continued his escalation plan. We learned yesterday that there is a 'secret surge' going on as we speak. It could put as many as 200,000 troops in the middle of Iraq's civil war by the end of the yearalmost double the number we have in Iraq now.1
This is more proof that the president is intent on moving full speed ahead with his failed policyand it's more proof that getting our troops home depends on Congress forcing accountability on him. This blank check compromise will not be enough. The November election was a mandate to end the war. The supplemental bill they'll vote on tomorrow won't do that. Without real timelines or real accountability for the Bush administration, it's just another blank check that will allow him to send even more troops into the middle of an endless civil war.
Please call Rep. Wasserman Schultz and tell her to vote against this supplemental bill. Tell Rep. Wasserman Schultz you want her to hold out for real accountability to end the war.
Thanks for all you do,
