I sent an email over two weeks ago (10/12/04 1:34 AM, the night of
the meeting when the Michigan IMC decided to go ahead with coverage)
to p-indy216, elle at indy, andypie, danamwilliams, kristohio,
stavrosthehunter, lalaimc, and detwilerc. That's what's listed as
your "emergency mailing list." Given that I'm not subscribed to your
lists and time is tight, I thought it would be most effective to
email 8 people directly rather than a couple of lists generally.
The only response I got was from Andy Pyle at 5:26 PM 10/12/04:
>Got your e mail-almost deleted for spam.
>
>Haven't talked in the collective about election coverage. 'spoze we
>could say:
>"Who cares who the winner is, we know who loses- the people". We
>have no meeting between
>now and the election.
>[..]
>Still much confusion in the proletariat and other working people
>about the election.
I wrote back saying "That may be true, but it's still news and it
still affects millions of people. Also our best chance to clear up
all that confusion. But I don't assume every IMC will want to cover
the elections. The Michigan IMC just didn't want to cover the Ohio
elections without checking in with the Ohio IMCs, so I offered to
drop y'all a line." He then sent a note to a broader Cleveland group,
cc'ing me, saying "Maybe we should have an IRC meeting" but I never
heard back about it.
I wrote again last week on 10/21/04 at 5:116 AM to elle,
neo_anti_authoritarian, imc-cleveland, keroism, sjmccoy, sarahw,
simone, tnorman, liberation_t, imc-erie, and andypie. I said I was
coming to town and wanted to talk to everyone I could about this:
>I would love to see you all at the Asterisk Gallery this Saturday
>evening. More info at http://www.clamormagazine.org/tour/
>
>If any of you can't be there, I would love to meet up on Sunday to
>discuss Indymedia coverage of the elections and any plans you have
>for those days. I'm working with folks at the Michigan IMC to offer
>dispatches and a breaking news hotline.
>
>If you want to get involved, please subscribe to the email list at...
I also sent a note to the IMC-US list about Indymedia election
coverage and heard back from Tampa, St. Louis, Santa Cruz, and
Western Massachusetts. MI IMC has good contacts in Toledo and Bowling
Green, and some in Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati and Yellow Springs.
I'm willing to chalk Cleveland IMC's ignoring of my outreach to
Indymedia's weak lines of communication.
If Cleveland IMC has election coverage plans, I'm sure Michigan IMC's
plans are complementary and we should start coordinating now. If
Cleveland IMC doesn't have plans but individuals want to get involved
in MI's coverage, that's great. Everyone here is eager for
participation. Please spread the call in number: 1-877-825-9535.
