allora .. bozza per la mail da mandare a loro poi cosa dobbiamo fare ..
dobbiamo solo spedirla o dobbiamo consensuarla a livello internazionale
come facciamo in lista da noi ?

we are the indymedia lombardia collective and we would like to propose
to the international newswire an italian language feature we just
published on our central column, we would like to publish italian
original text and english translation.

Lately everything has became increasingly difficult.. lately it just
seems that someone unleashed Italy's worst instincts: xenofobic pogroms
and (ronde) no longer get to the news, the hunt for public service
employees has become the most practiced game of 2008 summer. Even the
fact that Eu parliament found italian immigration law not complying with
international consensus on human rights does not seem to wake up
consciences that are soundly asleep.

All of this just because we got used to it, because we were trained by
our masters, day by day, to get used to all of this mess.

We were trained to ignore the most basic rights of people born in the
“wrong” part of the world but even this is not enough,as we all know, we
are in an emergency state.

The illusion of an artificial emergency for security claims greater
sacrifices with each passing day, there are no structural limits of the
vicious circle of fear so, in the name of “security”, everything becomes
possible, the use of the army as a police auxiliary in italy's biggest
cities becomes possible. Following blindly the dogma of efficiency it
becomes possible to cut social support for indigent families and
individuals, it becomes possible to approve laws that aim to destroy
even the most basic rights for temporary workforce, it becomes almost
obvious to transform public universities in the next “promise land” for
venture capital looting.

Security requires sacrifice efficiency require sacrifice and we get used
to all of this, we get used to mass arrests of “sans papiers” on public
buses, we get used to losing our right to housing, privacy and health,
always hoping that the lightning will spare us, striking our neighbor.

Getting used doesn't mean only losing all of this, getting used means
being robbed of our own history, of our very own potential for conflict,
of our last and only mean for an autonomous protection for ourselves and
for others.

Getting used means being struck by a rather strange form of selective
amnesia because we lose memory of all of the means and practices that we
could have used to pull ourselves out of this mess, we also lose memory
of the the simple fact that, in the past, defending our basic rights
meant defending the rights of our, colleague, neighbor or even the
rights of a complete stranger.

Getting used is not a thing that happens by chance, it is a project that
wants to create legitimate ground for infamous practices.

In the name of revisionism and “pacification” again everything becomes
politically possible: a common burial ground for fascists and partisans,
the cover up of police beatings or homicides even supporting a concert
organized by Milan's neo-fascist scene or even granting a space to right
wing extremists, all of this is feasible.

But we shouldn't forget that getting used is, first and foremost, a
blatant and worn out lie, so pitifully stupid that is impossible to
believe in it, unless one wants to; because of this in in Italy, in 2008
resistance implies not resigning to racism, to arrogance or to “market
forces”.

For short resistance means never getting accustomed to all of this.
