7:00 p.m., Teamsters Hall, 6200 W. Bluemound.
This event is part of 20-city U.S. tour by Iraqi labor leaders, and will be

WHAT: Iraqi Labor Leaders to Speak in Milwaukee
WHEN: Monday, June 20, 7:00 p.m.
WHERE: Teamsters Local 200 Hall, 6200 W. Bluemound Rd. Enter on 62 St.
WHO: Two leaders from the Federation of Workers Councils and Unions of Iraq
(FWCUI) will speak about their struggles for labor rights in the new Iraq.
Don't miss this opportunity to hear directly from Iraqi union leaders and
learn how the Bush Administration's anti-labor agenda is playing out in the
lives of Iraqi workers.
These representatives will talk about the challenges of free trade policies,
privatization, and attacks on workers' rights. Their goal is to build unions
that are independent and free of government control. They call for the
removal of U.S. and British forces. They are committed to a
democratic, secular, and multi-ethnic Iraq.
FWCUI President Falah Alwan is an engineer who refused to sign a Saddam
loyalty pledge and became an underground union organizer in factories and
the construction trades. After the regime fell, he helped organize the FWCUI
Amjad Ali Aljawhry, the FWCUI North American representative, was blacklisted
by the former regime because of his political views and organizing
activities. He fled to Turkey in 1995, and now lives in exile in Canada
where he has been active in antiwar and labor solidarity work.
The FWCUI represents power generation, leather, transportation, drilling,
and textile workers.
