16th PASTORS FOR PEACE CARAVAN TO CUBA  VISITS MILWAUKEE ON SATURDAY, JULY 9

On Saturday, July 9, 2005 the Pastors for Peace Caravan to Cuba will stop in
Milwaukee. A public send off party and program will take place from 5-8pm,
at Club Timbuktu, 520 E. Center St. It will feature DJ Paul Finger spinning
the best in Afro-Caribbean music, and guests are welcome to sample African
cuisine and a great beverage selection. A speaker from the Caravan will
explain why people of conscience are committing civil disobedience to defy
the US restrictions on travel to Cuba.

Humanitarian aid to go on the caravan is being collected from June 20th to
July 9th, at Central United Methodist Church, 639 N. 25th St. (344-1600),
including medicines, school supplies, Bibles in Spanish, and other items.
This year, the 16th Caravan will focus on assisting Cubans with special
needs, collecting items such as wheel chairs, crutches, canes, and hearing

The caravan is a direct challenge to the recently increased U.S.
restrictions. Participants on 13 routes traveling through 48 states plus
Canada will come together and deliver humanitarian aid to the Cuban people
without a treasury department license, and then return to the U.S. with
products developed in Cuba which the U.S. population is not allowed to
purchase. One of five special buses dedicated to the "Cuban 5" prisoners
will visit Wisconsin. The Wisconsin bus is dedicated to Fernando Gonzalez,
who is being held in the Oxford, Wisconsin federal prison for attempting to
deter acts of terrorism by Orlando Bosch. Bosch was jailed for the bombing
of a Cuban civilian airliner in 1976, killing all 73 aboard, and had also
been convicted of terrorist acts in the U.S. Although the U.S. Justice
Department has described Bosch as being "resolute and unwavering in his
advocacy of terrorist violence," he was released from custody and operates
freely in Miami.


The July 9th celebration is free and open to the public, with a financial
donation for the caravan requested (deductible monetary donations should be
made out to "IFCO/Pastors for Peace"). For more information see
