Calling all writers, performers, journalists, pranksters and other
current or potential radio rogues:
Your stories and ideas are needed for a brand-new podcast to be hosted
on AlterNet! "Where Your Mouth Is" is an audio show about the messy
places where progressive ideals and day to day life intersect. Each
episode will explore (and sometimes explode) a theme based on a
political buzzword or phrase.
We're looking for folks of all backgrounds to contribute:
-compelling, This-American-Life-style radio stories
-book, movie, and film reviews
-culture-jamming pranks
-short stories, essays, and opinion pieces to be read on-air
-how-to-segments
-action-oriented rants
and whatever else you can dream up!
(***Note -- we also need event announcements for stuff happening in
your local community, so send 'em on to
whereyourmouthis at gmail.com.***)
AlterNet attracts over two million readers each month, so while
there's no money to be made in this podcast at the moment, we can
offer the satisfaction of a broad national & international audience.
Original content is preferred, though if you've got a great story and
it's already been aired, send it on and we'll be glad to consider it.
We don't have our own studio space, so you must have the ability to
produce a digital recording of your story -- however, if you've got a
great idea and no known access to technology, we're happy to help
brainstorm about ways to get it recorded.
Our first show, "Culture of Life," will be available on AlterNet.org
next week. We're currently looking for stories and story ideas for
the next show --
THE MAINSTREAM. Here are just a few ideas of stories you could do:
-Interview these folks or otherwise cover this story:
http://www.indystar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050526/NEWS01/505260481.
Is Wicca really NOT in the mainstream?
-Get literal. I'd love to see a story about a "main stream" – maybe
one on water rights?
-How does counterculture become mainstream (i.e. "Shizzle," Doc
Martens, blogs, etc.)?
-What is your secret mainstream love? American Idol? Your cell
phone? Britney Spears? Confess and try to convert us.
Deadline for content is next weekend, so send me your ideas
as soon as you've got one. These are only suggestions -- no idea is
too out there, so bring 'em on. Send to: whereyourmouthis at gmail.com
Ideas below for upcoming shows, just to get your juices running...
Pride/Patriotism (content deadline: 6/24)

least a risky thing to do

-Talk to some modern war resisters in Canada, or Conscientious
Objectors here in the States
-Pride and July 4 -- same holiday for differnent people?
-Tell a story about someone or group of people insisting on having
"pride" in their identity at great risk or cost.

fresh, complicated perspective
