[imc-northern] Network X Gathering - media sessions

Heya

I guess what would be ideal would be to use the time we have on the Saturday to introduce the groups present and what they do and have a discussion centred around what we would all like in terms of a media strategy, hopefully leading to an agreed set of key aims to propose to the plenary.

I imagined workshops to centre around how to achieve those aims, whatever they may be, wherever they might fit in, and facilitated by the different groups who are most appropriate for each, to hopefully get some firm planning started. I guess without having chance to feel the mood and existing levels of expertise before this, it makes it difficult to specify exactly what form those workshops should take, which is why I'm suggesting a fairly broad target here.

What indymedia has always been very good at is providing coverage at large mobilisations which is why I suggested our contribution to the weekend workshops would probably do well to focus on different facets of that.

Beyond that, there is a media specific summit being organised for February by those behind the aggromedia.org project, where firm implementations of the goals identified by this weekends meeting can potentially be fleshed out in a more media focused environment.

Hey

Cheers for the feedback Jimdog - lots of things there that hadn't come up
yet in discussions I have had.

The only problem is how structuring it in this way would fit in with the
agenda: http://networkxuk.wordpress.com/agenda/

What do you reckon - workshop sessions on the first day?

As to the agenda - how about putting all these different aspects up for
(short) discussion, then enabling small groups to go off and work on them in
workshops and bring back proposals?

Cheers

MP

>> Hi,
>>
>> I am sending this to the open Indymedia Northern list (so I'm bcc ing
>> people's individual emails).
>>
>> JimDog has offered to bring some tech (projectors, screens, laptops..) and
>> I might be able to help him out.
>>
>> I think we can run a workshop session on internet security and offer
>> advice e.t.c. Was the Mule planning on doing a Journalism one (i.e. the
>> importance of independent media and how that is slipping away...)?
>>
>> Sorry I didn't reply much earlier,

>> Hey there
>>
>> I am sending this to a few people who have expressed an interest in

>>
>> This is to bring together a few separate discussions I have been having
>> with people on the emails regarding. If there are any other people you think

>>
>> A few things it appears we need to think of before laying anything out:
>>
>> -
>>
>> Structure and agenda: to be discussed before the Network X Gathering.
>> What do we want to achieve from the gathering in terms of media?
>>
>>
>> -
>>
>> How to work together/collaborate: existing networks/collectives and
>> individuals. Look towards a Network website/blog or a national aggregating
>> site which brings together many existing radical/alternative news outlets?
>>
>>
>> Then there have been some ideas for workshop/sessions. I would summarise
>> them as:
>>
>> -
>>
>> Different forms of media (print, web, audiovisual, radio etc)

>>
>> How to set up your own print/web collective: processes and

>>
