[Imc-nottingham] Notes on East Midlands Indymedia meeting

Hello all, 

Here's a copy of the notes I took during the meeting on monday, a
basic outline of the ideas and principles that came up and were agreed
on.


*This independant source of media will cover not just Nottingham city,
but Nottinghamshire as a whole and the rest of the East Midlands so as
to reach out to the people of this county who may not live in the city
but still have the right to a voice.

*The project will begin with the setting up of an inymedia website,
but future projects could include a radiostation and a regular
newsletter. Through the different media strands that develop a more
diverse range of people can be brought into the project.

*It is understood that not all people have access to the internet and
not all people have the technical skills to work the internet...
through the feedback that we receive on this issue it is possible to
work on projects that equipt people with the resources and knowledge
they need through skills sharing workshops and a list of venues where
public internet use is available. (like in social and community
centres)

*The importance of having a printed, regular newsletter is highlighted
by the previous point. By distributing a newsletter to various venues
in the East Midlands that summarises the news published on the
website, it will be more readily available to people to read. Also
there is a possibility for this to be translated so that again, it can
be accessed by more people.

*We have to consider how this website will add to what we already have
(Notts Alternative News etc)

8.10pm - gunshot disrupts meeting, our first headline has been taken care of. 

*The ethos behind this local project is the same as the global ethos
which is to provide real news and information from the people who live
in the affected area and for anyone who is dissolusioned by the
mainstream media and the spin the local media puts on news, to read.

*This project will only work if it is attractive and made known to
Nottinghamshire residents, so a press release is neccesary.

*The project is a way of drawing existing networks and community
groups together. Making links between people.


Right, i think that's just about it... sorry if i've missed out
important things. Please feel free to copy and forward amended
versions. I'm not the worlds most articulate person.
