josh and chris,

ok, good points especially on the recruitment tip.

let me flesh out the rational behind the login and delay idea, cause i
think they are worth a little more consideration.

1. login
i would not recommend that a verified email address be a prerequisite
to a login name. People should be able to have handles other the
"anonymous". Furthermore this lets moderators search by name and delete
all. With anonymous, recent posts by USARMY would have been a bitch to
get ride of. All you need to have up is the admin interface and any
name you recognize as a troll will get taken off. Of course they can
have multiple names, but this will be a small deterrent if they have to
go through the sign up process for each new handle. plus that handle
will be easily recognized in due time

2. 5 or 2 min delay (this is the key)
combine the above with a five minute or 2 min delay and these
asscrackers will potentially never see there post go live. this is
critical. if they never or very rarely see their post on line they wont
think its possible to spam the site. goodbye suckers. at the very least
this should be an option during high traffic periods. as far as being a
deterrent to posting. i agree, but i think the deterrent will mostly be
towards inane, thoughtless comments.

later
dan
