CKLN / CKUT Radio: Cabs and Capitalism in Toronto....
http://radio.indymedia.org/news/2005/11/7723.php

Listen to an interview with Ahmet Gulkan, a taxi driver in downtown Toronto,
organizer with the Toronto Coalition of Concerned Taxi Drivers and regular
contributor to Taxi Post, Toronto's monthly taxi newspaper.

Taxis are central to the North American urban economy and landscape, while
drivers represent an economic and social underclass of majority immigrant
labour. In this interview Ahmet addresses the social and economic struggle of
taxi drivers in Toronto, who collectively represent the second largest income
for the City of Toronto.

Within recent months the Toronto Coalition of Concerned Taxi Drivers, in
coordination with the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty [OCAP], have held a
number of demonstrations and actions. Public actions have voiced the struggle
of a majority immigrant drivers, against racial profiling at the hands of the
Toronto police, who issue a disproportional amount of municipal tickets and
fines to cabbies.
