Stonewall Statement on Alito Confirmation

Washington, DC -This week, the National Stonewall Democrats issued the
following statement on the confirmation of Judge Samuel Alito to the United
States Supreme Court:

"We are disappointed in the confirmation of Judge Alito to the United States
Supreme Court. This nomination was made by the White House with the advance
consultation of anti-family advocates who seek to use our courts to
discriminate against same-sex families..."

State of the Union Address

President Bush once again used his State of the Union address to mislead
Congress about the need to stop marriage recognition for same-sex couples.
Pleading for Congress to help parents shield their children from gay
couples, President Bush lumped same-sex marriage into the same category as
the lobbying scandals that have plagued his Republican Party.

Republican Leader Offers Childish Comments

  <http://www.stonewalldemocrats.org/uploads/images/brownback.jpg>

Republican Senator Sam Brownback (KS), a possible presidential candidate in
2008, referred to the "fruits" of countries that have passed marriage
equality laws in an apparent insult reported by Rolling Stone. The comments
soon drew sharp criticism, and had the Senator's office quickly retreating
from his words, but not his anti-gay positions.
