See below (I sent it to the general list by mistake a few days ago).
The new help page has gone up since I wrote it, so I'll put it up tonight,
probably with a photo and brief plug for the new media centre.
Ideas for more features:
1. The animal rights campaign against the new lab etc. Lots
of posts about this so it deserves a feature.
2. The angel-nanotech action - although I'm a bit wary of patting
ourselves on the backs too much by always writing features about our
mates actions etc. (eg our string of dsei features :).
Anyone particularly fancy taking up writing one of these, or anything
else for that matter, in the next week or so? Just summarise and condense
what's available on the newswire and link to lots of related stuff :)

I thought we could do with a feature encouraging people to post
and clearly laying out the information people need to motivate
and enable them to do it. And our static pages could be more
clear and useful too.
DO NOT put this feature online yet though, please - it
is still a work in progress:
1. It links to the help page, which is blank. So we need to write
a help page before this goes up. I have a rough idea for a help
page along the lines of:
-----------------
how to contribute...
...to the newswire: blah
...to the middle column: blah
...to the calendar: blah
...to the links: blah
how to get more involved: blah
-----------------
with a quick guide to each, including the 'how to publish' flyer
I did awhile back.
2. I think some stuff explaining our editorial policy and
decision making structure more transparently needs to be added
to a static page asap, though I guess this feature
could go online without it. I'm not sure where such a blurb would
best belong but we need one.
3. The piece could do with a photo. Again, not essential.
4. Depending on how the meeting goes tonight, it may be possible
to also announce in the feature a certain new and exciting media
space in East Oxford. So there may be something more to add.
I will start drafting a help page. If anyone wants to start work on
2 and 3 or improving the feature below that'd be cool, otherwise I'll
get around to it myself in the next day or two anyway. Or if you
just think one or all of these are bad ideas say so now :)

Be your own journalist!
Oxford indymedia works on your contributions. That means you get to
tell your own story, in your own words and in your own style. There
are no 'experts' here to muffle, distort or ignore your voice, nobody
to report your actions and experiences for you - on indymedia you D.I.Y.
You don't have to register a username to publish here, nor will
your article be screened by moderators before appearing online. We do
have a set of editorial guidelines, and occasionally hide articles
or comments which break them, but this is done after articles appear,
so that the flow of information is not held up by bureaucracy.
Even hidden articles are not completely deleted from the site;
they disappear from the front page but can still be viewed on the
view all posts page.
So go on - take the plunge - publish your news!
