Hi Richard,
First you find the comment in mir admin, then you set that comment's
"published state" to be "hidden". There are a few ways to do find the
comment, then hiding it is easy:
1) If it's a recent comment, you can just browse to find it. From mir
admin, click on "comments" at the upper left of the start page on mir
admin, which will take you to a list of comments on all articles, sorted
by date. You can go to the next page of comments (by date and time) by
clicking the "next" button at the upper right.
Find the comment that you want, and click on the popup menu next to it,
and choose "hide". Then click on the "save" button at the upper left.
The next time an "articles changed" and a "sync" happens, the change
(comment hidden in this case) will get synched to the production site.
That normally happens many times everyday, including anytime you (or
another admin) click the "Generate all new" button on the main page. it
may take a while if there's a long queue of stuff for mir to do already.
I can see the one you're talking about now is still on the first page of
comments as I write this: it's dated 2004-07-07 18:26.
Hm, looks like it's from our old pal Rockwell, the daily BNP troll.
Flushhhhhhh! :)
Now the word "hidden" appears next to the comment, right under the date
and time. That's called it's "published state" in Mir.
2) If the comment's more than a couple of hours old, and you don't want
to trawl through many pages of comments to find it, but you do know the
article number, then type the article number into the box at the top of
the middle column on the mir admin start page, labelled "open article
#", and hit return. Then click the "comments" button at upper left.
That will show you just the comments attached to the one article. Hide,
save and sync as described above.
3) If you don't know the article number, you can always search for it.
From the main mir admin page, click on "comments" at the upper left of
the start page on mir admin, which will take you to a list of comments
on all articles, sorted by date, as in 1) above. At the top of the page
there's a search bar. Type "bogus" into the box, keep "title" as the
value you're searching, and click "search". Ping! There, it's the
first one on the list. Click the popup next to the comment, set it to
hide, and click "save" at upper left. It will be hidden following the
next sync.
Well, no need to hide that one now, as I've just done it. But you get
the idea. :)
