The payment-discuss list is (was?) a discussion about payment in
Indymedia - paying staff, soliciting grants, that kind of thing.
Discussion was suspended about a year ago pending the result of a
Consulta - a sort of questionnaire to local IMCs, to determine what
different IMCs do on the ground, and what their views are about money,
how to get it, and what to do with it.
The discussion about payment has woken-up again (but not on the
payment-discuss list - on the imc-communication list this time) as a
result of a new proposal to seek a large amount of funding for Indymedia
Drupal development from the Knight Foundation. This has given new legs
to the Consulta, and IMC UK is again trying to get a response together.
I PROPOSE that Oxford IMC is not sufficiently together to answer this
Consulta in a meaningful way, and that we in Oxford should therefore
collaborate with UK IMC to help them complete it as a collective
response for the UK.
Note that other UK local IMCs may still wish to submit their own response.
I suggest that we should consider this proposal agreed if there are no
objections in the next week - i.e. 10:00am, 20th November.

approach to completing the Consulta.

Subject: [Imc-uk-network] Global IMC Finance Consulta

Hello all
In response to the Global discussion about grants going on the 'tech'
and 'communications' lists - it reminded me that we should now start
doing this Consulta - that has been worked on by the finance list to
all understand the current state of the network's relation to money.
The replies will be collated and relevant issues debated. Then (maybe
in a year) we will see if there is a clear position to be made for
the IMC 'Principals of Unity' (POU), that should help clear up some
of the misunderstandings apparent in the global network to date.
So we can do this on the network list as a UK reply - or individual
collectives can send in their own responses. It may be possible to
send a reply as the UK with a variety of responses - i guess will
will agree on most, but to some questions we might have different
answers - ie. "Do you have a space/office?" Maybe to start the ball
rolling, collectives that are interested can start discussing it and
reply to this list on how they want to move forward.
I will be hassling the london collective to talk about it at our next
meeting.
cheers tony
