Hi Ben,

Unfortunately at the moment there is no proper automated system for people
to submit their own events to the Oxford calendar. We would like there to
be, but have never got around to solving the tech issues.

What this means is that every event in the calendar has been added by hand
by one of a handful of volunteers, either because they saw it in the
newswire or heard about it elsewhere (eg a mailing list).

The next best thing as far as people being able to submit their own events
is that they can submit them to an open calendar which covers the whole
of the UK, at protest.net. That's what happens when you click the link
on the Oxford page - you are posting to the UK calendar. It doesn't notify
any of the Oxford IMC volunteers that you've done that, so we'll only
notice your event if we remember to check the protest.net calendar,
which obviously we should be doing more often.

So, yes, you have misunderstood the process of submitting an event, but
not through any fault of your own - having the 'Announce an event' link
right above the oxford calendar is very misleading. And no, no concious
decision not to promote the forum, just a lack of volunteers watching the
protest.net calendar!

Anway, the event's on the calendar now - thanks for prodding us, if only
because it reminds of this outstanding problem... :(

I submitted the oxford radical forum event (
http://www.oxfordradicalforum.com) to the calendar about a month ago (
http://www.protest.net/imcuk/index.cgi?span=week&year=2008&month=2&day=24&list=Off&state_values=),
but it hasn't appeared on the oxford indymedia main page (
http://www.indymedia.org.uk/en/regions/oxford/).  I think this must be
moderated by a "real-life" person, so I'm just wondering if there was a
conscious decision not to put the listing up, or whether I have
misunderstood the process for submitting an event?   Anyway, please could
you put it on the oxford calendar?  It seems the sort of thing that people
would want to know about - half the groups who are attending I found through
indymedia!
