I have a proposal for a small change to the RSS feed from the Ox
Indymedia calendar. I don't think it's controversial, and will make the
feed more useful.
However, I didn't just want ot go ahead and do it without first giving
my fellow OIMCers a change to change or stop my proposal.
Since I think it's non-controversial, I propose making this change
unless anybody objects within a week.
Change the Oxford IM calendar RSS feed so that the date is included
alongside the title.
An RSS feed means that one web site (or other applications) can 'pull
in' content from another. For example, http://penguin.ox4.org pulls in
the RSS feeds from the Oxford Indymedia newswire & calendar (amongst
others) on the right hand side. This is a very useful way of sharing
information on t'web.
The way the OIM calendar RSS feed is currently set up, if the site
pulling in the feed only displays the title (which the penguin site
referred to above does), there is no indication that the item is time
sensitive. I think this is unfriendly to the end user, and reduces the
usefulness of the RSS feed.
This is what current happens when a site pulls in the RSS feed
Displayed in OIM
Saturday 28th August, 12:00pm-2:00pm Campsfield demo, Campsfield
detention centre, Langford Lane, Kidlington
Displayed in feed
My proposal is to change what is displayed, using the above as an
example, in the feed to
Campsfield demo (28/08/2010 12:00pm)
(i.e. the start date and time. No reference to end date or time.)
I feel that this relatively small change will make the feed more useful
