The Pittsburgh Independent Media Center will have a free screening of the
ground-breaking video documentary "We Interrupt This Empire" on the
Carnegie Mellon Campus on Friday, October 24th. The screening will take
place in Doherty Hall 2315 at 7:30 PM.

The video, produced by the San Francisco Independent Media Center, will be
accompanied by the monthly Newsreal screening as well as locally produced
video content.

"We Interrupt This Empire..." is a collaborative work by many of the Bay
Area's independent video activists which documents the direct actions that
shut down the financial district of San Francisco in the weeks following
the United States' invasion of Iraq. With the audio backdrop including the
live broadcasts of SF Indymedia's Enemy Combatant Radio and the SFPD's
tactical communications that were picked up by police scanners, the
documentary takes a look at the diverse show of resistance from the
streets of San Francisco as well as providing a critique of the coporate
media coverage of the war and exploring such issues as the Military
Industrial Complex, attacks on civil liberties, and the United States'
current imperialist drive.

"This a a clear picture of what's left of an American conscience in the
midst of this national horror-show--this is the best damn doc I've seen on
the local face of what might have been the largest anti-war movement in
world history. " Craig Baldwin of Other Cinema

The Indymedia Newsreal is produced by members of the Indymedia network
around the world.

Each program covers actions taken in local communities, by ordinary
people, to address critical issues like air and water pollution,
reproductive rights, homelessness, for-profit prisons, sweatshops, racism,
police brutality, indigenous struggles, and more.

The Pittsburgh Independent Media Center is a voluntary collective
dedicated to serving the local community with a system for disseminating
print and online news. Our coverage will be the issues and events ignored
by mainstream media, and also those issues that mainstream media covers
with the inherent bias of a news organization run as a business. We
believe that the job of disseminating information does not belong to a
privileged class of reporters and editors, but to everyone. It is our duty
as citizens to act as journalists so that the public knows the truth in
every instance, not just when the truth is to our political and economic
rulers' advantage. We seek to be an inclusive organization which will grow
as a community, and not as a hierarchy.
