i agree with that one
the uncertainity of a million random viewers opinions is really
intimidating to anyone thinking about posting a story for the first time.
if this is supposed to be inviting for random people to write and post
their news, it might be a good idea to have the option of uncommentable
posts.
theres obvious plusses to having comments too, and since this would still
be an option, i would guess that a lot of people would still choose that.
it might just help get more new reporters out.

A lot of people are still going to avoid posting
because it really stinks when your subjected to really abusive
language when you're just trying to report something that happened
or let folks know about an upcoming event. The IMC ought to be a
supportive environment that everyone feels comfortable working with.
