Title:
Rally to Say NO to Anti-Immigrant Policies
Event Date:
9/3/2006 3:00 PM
Description:
The National Week End Labor Day of Actions for Immigrants’ Rights:
Say NO to Anti-immigrant policies!
Pittsburgh Friends of Immigrants (PFOI) invites you to march along on
September 3, 2006. We are marching in opposition to the cruel
Hazleton ordinance passed on July of this year. No to racist
ordinances in Hazleton or anywhere! March for Immigrants’ Rights!
Background:
Luis J. Barletta, the grand-son of an immigrant and mayor of
Hazleton, PA, along with Hazleton city council, passed the Illegal
Immigration Relief Act. In an interview he stated that he wanted to
make Hazleton “the toughest place on illegal immigrants in America”
and accused undocumented immigrants of criminals. The Act punishes
landlords who rent to undocumented immigrants, any employers who hire
them, and establishes an English-only measure that will
disenfranchise immigrant communities.. The PA ACLU, the Puerto Rican
Defense Fund and other activists and attorneys filed suit last month
for unconstitutionality. PFOI marches in solidarity with the
Hazleton Rally for Immigrants’ Rights.
Starting September 2nd through the 4th, thousands of immigrants’
advocates will march nationally in solidarity with the National Labor
Day Week End Action for Immigrants’ Rights to say NO TO Anti-
Immigrant policies! Stop destroying families! No more
deportations! Immigrants are not criminals!
Join PFOI on September 3rd and march with the national Immigrant
movement.
Pittsburgh is proud to have a diverse workforce through its brave
history and immigrants are part of the labor equation. “An injury to
Juan, an injury to Al.”
The National Immigrants' Rights movement demands:
