Dear all,
After due consideration of the concern raised in the
imc-process list, we in the IMC-Pilipinas group called
a meeting today, Dec. 19, to come out with a solution
for the deadlock in the application process brought
about by objections to our group name.
Hours of intense debate resulted in two consensual
decisions: 1) That we drop the name IMC-Pilipinas; and
2) To rename our group as IMC-QC. Needless to say,
these decisions were not easy to make.
Why QC? QC stands for Quezon City, a component city of
Metro Manila and former national capital of the
Philippines. It is where many organizations in our
affinity list have their national headquarters. It is
also one of the usual sites for mass actions,
including the two People Power uprisings in 1986 and
2001.
We prefer the use of the name QC to Quezon City
because Quezon City is too long, therefore in our
view, very inconvenient. It is also difficult to
pronounce. Among young people, including activists,
QC is preferred in day-to-day usage.
Our choice of name could be compared with LA (Los
Angeles), DC (Washington DC) and NYC (New Yok City).
Heretofore, all references to IMC-Pilipinas in our
documents (PoU, Mission Statement and Editorial
Policy) should now read as IMC-QC.
With our dropping of the name IMC-Pilipinas and our
use of a different name starting today, we now see no
other hurdle to our application and we now ask that it
be *unfrozen* and considered for consensual approval.
Thank you very much.
For the IMC-QC collective,
Alexander Martin Remollino
