Subject: Re: [Imc-africa] Delegations / committees
Thanks molefi for your email. Several replies inline below.
First through what time is the chat this morning? I remember it was
changed to 10:30am new york time. If so, I will not be able to make it
because I have church at this time. I realize that there was a strong
request for my attendance but I hope this note is sufficient. Please do
identify any questions or tasks you have for me. I will log on at 9:30
just to be sure.

Thanks for commenting on this. Agreeing to one figure is definitely
necessary in order to finalize a budget. So we need to hear what others
think about this. Perhaps it could be a subject of discussion for the
irc chat?
I recall that one concern about limiting the numbers has been raised in
the past -- that it will discourage locals from recruiting more
participation even if it may exist. Perhaps we could decide that if more
delegates than the limit are recruited and proposed by a local indymedia
collective, that the whole group will make efforts to fundraise for all
of them, but will put this second in priority to fundraising to make the
other costs. We could also develop a timeline to make the decision by.
This is a suggestion for discussion.

I agree with this goal! July 10th sounds great.

Who is it that took this on? I do not recall one person or even two
agreeing to do this, but I might have missed it.
Please note that "Finances" and "Funding proposal" are separate.
"Finances" refers to a portion of a funding proposal, but there is a
need for many other components to a funding proposal.
Perhaps we could discuss the pieces of the funding proposal -- some of them
we probably have almost finished. Here is an effort:
(1) narrative -- this could probably be drawn from molefi's documents,
as well as the writeup that Fabian did on dakar, using the application
from dakar as a guide. has anyone begun this work? i think at least a
team of two people is needed to accomplish this. though perhaps some
psople have already begun it.
(2) media links from the website to jazz up the narrative -- i think dee
dee volunteered to compile some of the best ones on a recent irc chat.
this is probably the most important part in terms of communicating with
donors. i trust dee dee has it squared away but if more help is needed
please let us know.
(3) budget -- as noted above, the decision about delegate numbers needs
to be made as a prerequisite. in addition, information has been sent via
email about how much room and board costs. all this information would
need to be compiled into a spreadsheet. we could use the one from dakar
as a guide (molefi has already begun to modified it i believe). to
finalize finances, I would propose that we set up a googledocs system
and that people volunteer to be on the finance committee get access to
work together on these tasks. what do people think of this proposal? it
would be important for someone from south africa imc to be on that team,
of course. also perhaps emem or someone else from Kebetkache could
because they do a lot of good fundraising themselves. emem what do you
think?
is that all? have i missed anything or are there updates i'm unaware of?

I think Russell is working on this. I think he has been having trouble
getting on irc.

Yes! Your spirit is very much appreciated by me. :)
Could I also suggest some other tasks?
* reach out to uc-imc about fiscal sponsorship and perhaps try to
negotiate a lower fiscal sponsorship rate
* (after above) set up a paypal donation site
* compile a list of potential funders and deadlines where relevant
* re-initiate communications with x-y
