April 25, Tuesday 7PM GLOBAL WARMING: THE SIGNS AND THE SCIENCE
Co-Producers: Karen Coshof and Polly Kosko PBS City Library, 210 E 400
South - SLCFC: Environmental Series presented in collaboration with the Mayors
Office, The Stegner Center for Land, Resources and the Enviroment and KUED7 a
panel discussion will follow the screening Singer Alanis Morissette narrates as
documentary filmmakers explore the already realized effects of global warming.
Numerous science experts review a growing body of evidence of the grave
consequences of a changing climate, and explore how individuals, communities
and organizations across America are creating new approaches to safeguard
future generations. The documentary also looks at evidence that human
activities are provoking an unprecedented era of atmospheric warming and
climatic events: more drought, wildfires and flooding; polar melting; more
powerful storms; and more variable weather. Tropical diseases are moving north;
childhood respiratory illnesses are skyrocketing; and in the last three decades
more than 30 diseases new to science have emerged.

Kent State: The Day the War Came Home
Free Speech Zone
2144 South Highland Drive
The Kent State shootings, also known as May 4 or the Kent State Massacre,
occurred at Kent State University in the city of
Kent, Ohio, and involved the shooting of students by the Ohio National Guard on
Monday, May 4, 1970. The altercation killed
four students and wounded nine others.
The shootings were the culmination of four days of increasingly agitated
demonstrations by members of the student body. The
students were protesting the American invasion of Cambodia which President
Richard Nixon launched on April 25, and announced
in a television address five days later.
This documentary film includes interview with students and National Guardsmen
who were there.

FREE FILM: Shocking and Awful:A Grassroots Response to War and Occupation, Part
3
Free Speech Zone
2144 South Highland Drive
Shocking and awful is the way many people view the current situation (2004) in
Iraq and the United States. The war
continues to take its toll on Iraqi civilians, international aid workers,
journalists and U.S. troops. Here at home we are
seeing how waging a perpetual war is affecting our own lives as well.
