re: Asset Mapping

Hi all:

This is Dale in Tucson. I've been producing half-hour and shorter segments
with Pan Left Productions <http://www.panleft.org> for the Tucson cable
access channels <http://www.accesstucson.org>.

I've only worked with Final Cut Pro for several months but I am a fast
learner.

One of my pieces is on the Pan Left Web site. It's not my best effort--I
had to hold the tripod up in the air (when I had a tripod) and couldn't see
the screen in the bright sunlight. The piece is called _1,000 Tucsonans
Welcome Bush_ and was intended to cause cognitive dissonance when presented
against the propaganda coverage in the local commercial news. I had
originally only planned to be at the event to help keep people on their
best behavior and to document any misconduct (mostly expected by police).

A few other pieces are waiting to be posted by the Webmaster at Pan Left.

My stuff tends to NOT feed off conflict but rather to find resolution to
conflicts, which may be why my efforts are not much appreciated by people
on any side who feed off conflict and want to keep the conflict going. The
challenge is to resolve conflicts without boring the audience. I'm certain
that it's much easier to just excite the audience with hatred and anger,
but IMO, that seems pointless.

I was asked by one of the local IMC folks to make a 60 second piece on the
Minutemen Project on the border, but I could see no way to accomplish
anything useful in 60 seconds. As the IMC writers found out
<http://arizona.indymedia.org/news/2005/04/26151.php>, leaders on both
sides of the issue seem to be guilty of exploiting mistrust and hatred to
keep the conflict going. The solution would be a balanced approach that
recognizes and respects the concerns of individuals on all sides, but the
leaders will resist it and viewers tend to be conditioned to want extreme
conflict that can only be resolved by a gunfight or war.

Cynics give up while rational realists can see a reason to keep fighting.

Pepperspray used a couple of my short pieces in Indymedia Presents (a
protest at Fort Huachuca opposing torture, and a music piece).

My strong point is careful systems analysis and the technical aspects of
production. I tend to spend a lot of time on details such as color
correction and capturing good sound. I'm not good at elevating levels of
stress hormones in the brain so that viewers will remember the commercials,
nor do I want to be.

I write articles for Arizona Indymedia (e.g.
<http://arizona.indymedia.org/news/2005/04/26173.php>).

Most of the members of Pan Left make medium length documentaries rather
than news, so I've had to cover events running three cameras by myself. It
would be much easier if the cameras were similar to each other.

I'm certified at Access Tucson for field production, studio production, and
production with the mini-mobile unit (3 PD-150s connected to a mobile
control room).

During the last half of summer, I'll be in Seattle.

If I can be of assistance, please let me know.
