[IMC-Satellite] what's up with newsreal?

Short answer: IMC Newsreal is still being produced and aired on FSTV the 
first Thursday of each month.

Longer: Kevin recently stepped down as the editor, and so the production 
has been thrown into scramble-mode.

Also - Newsreal needs an Editor  - spread the word.

It's been helpful to have the editor nearby Boulder, CO., mostly so we 
can rush the final edit there at deadline, but if we could find a 
reliable person to edit and encode the program, and guarantee to get it 
to FSTV by deadline - all the better.

Speaking of encoding - for years the editor has sent a copy of each 
program to indybay for encoding, but for some the encoding part was 
never completed. Now there's a semi-complete archive located there if 
anybody would be willing to step up and encode the archives. Since Jan. 
2006 we stopped sending tapes to SF - and I've asked the interim editor 
to keep a raw NTSC copy of each program, so we can encode those for the 
web. It seems that the editor could easily encode the program after 
editing it. We should decide on the best formats to offer online.... 
IMC-Video is talking codecs right now -- but nothing concrete has come 
of that yet. I would like to explore posting videos that are indexed so 
people access a specific segment of a given program - anybody know how 
to achieve that?

Newsreal website: need an upgrade? We need to post the monthly programs 
at very least. I would like to see more 
collaboration/programming/planning online - perhaps in a blog or wiki 
format. I've been working with Drupal lately - it's a nice CMS  - if 
there's a PHP programmer available to help with the back-end stuff, I 
would be willing to build a CMS for the website. That would allow us to 
have calendar online with all deadlines and pertinent dates, and to 
collaborate on programming etc.

Good point Randy about the editor sending an email with program/credit 
info - that should be easy enough. That information should be posted 
online too.

I will get the latest run sheets from the editor and post shortly...
