UCSC Admins Seek 3 year Suspension of Prominent Black Activist
Community Fights to Defend Alette Kendrick, Protect Free Speech & Fight Racism
Administrators of the University of California, Santa Cruz (UCSC) have announced their intention to âsuspendâ Alette Kendrick, a prominent Black activist, for a period of three years â in essence, a sentence of expulsion for the third-year student. In response, Alette has immediately requested a formal hearing â her right under the schoolâs judicial process â while supporters organized a week of action which culminated in a large rally on May 24th featuring Angela Davis as a speaker.

DobaDoza Performance at March 18 Antiwar Demonstration in SF
DobaDoza of the Watsonville Brown Berets Perform in San Francisco
On March 18th, Shannen and Patricia of the group DobaDoza performed in San Francisco at the International ANSWER rally and demonstration to commemorate the 4th anniversary of the invasion and occupation of Iraq. Both Shannen and Patricia are members of the Watsonville Autonomous Chapter of the Brown Berets. They were joined by a young member of the Berets, a middle school student who also DJ's, raps and sings for fun in his free time.

Dam Nation: Dispatches from the Water Underground
Grey Water Workshop and Book Release in Santa Cruz
Grey water activists and editors Laura Allen and Cleo Woelfle-Erskine celebrated the release of the book, Dam Nation: Dispatches From The Water Underground, and facilitated an interactive workshop, Future Water Solutions, on May 24th in Santa Cruz. People took a look at what individuals, communities, and municipalities are doing to reconnect to water cycles, and there was a discussion of local and global issues.
