Sentencing for Jesse James Forrey on September 17th
Jesse James Forrey, 27, was arrested at the 2008 Republican National Convention (RNC) in St. Paul, MN. After little and conflicting evidence from the prosecutor, a Minnesota jury convicted him on August 7th, 2009 of a felony charge of damage to property in the first degree. Jesse maintains his innocence and continues to fight the verdict. Jesse's sentencing is on September 17th. He faces a possibility of 1 year, and up to 5 years, in jail.

A Little Bit of So Much Truth at the Beach Flats Community Garden
On Friday, September 11th, at 8pm in the Beach Flats Community Garden, the Santa Cruz Guerilla Drive In presents A Little Bit of So Much Truth, the story of Oaxacan people taking control of the local media in the summer of 2006, in order to tell their own stories of struggle and action in the face of repression.

Bilingual Radio Programming Comes Under Fire
Informativo Pacifica, a half hour national and international newscast produced in Spanish by volunteers at Pacifica's KPFK radio station in Los Angeles, has been cut and rescheduled without warning. Instead of broadcasting Monday through Friday at 5:30am, the show was rescheduled to 9:00pm and only four days a week, Monday through Thursday.

First Annual Dyke March in Watsonville
Latinas and Lesbians and Allies (LyLyA) hosted the First Annual Dyke March in Watsonville on Saturday, August 22nd. Designed to give visibility to a community that many times is shrouded by homophobia, organizers said it would be a historic event. The event bagan with a rally at Watsonville Plaza.

Santa Cruz Memorial Bike Ride on August 16th
August 7th, 2009 marks the two year anniversary of the death of John Myslin, a high school teacher who was run over by a truck at the intersection of Bay and Mission in Santa Cruz. Several months after his death, on April 8th, 2008, another experienced cyclist, Chris Rock, was run over and killed by a truck at the same intersection. A memorial bike ride took place on August 16th.

John Brown Childs on Education, Race, Inspiration, and Cooperation
John Brown Childs, a UCSC professor emeritus, author, scholar and educator, joined the Teachers for Class War radio show on Free Radio Santa Cruz for an hour of discussion on July 13th. Topics range from Katrina to Obama, UCSC politics to his namesake John Brown, and the civil rights movement of the sixties to contemporary issues facing Santa Cruz.
