REPORT ON INDY SCOTLAND MEETING WED 21 JULY 2004 EDINBURGH

We need feedback on several matters - please respond!

Only anarchobabe and Mike from Edinburgh present, so no decisions taken,
but there are several proposals.....

POSTAL ADDRESS
Proposed this should be c/o Autonomous Centre of Edinburgh (ACE).  ACE is
agreeable.  Possible complication that ACE may be moving soonish, and mail
would only be forwarded if we paid Royal Mail. FEEDBACK REQUESTED.

POSITION OF TUTORIAL "HOW TO BE AN EDITOR" ON THE SITE
Proposed that this be moved to a more prominent position. FEEDBACK REQUESTED.

PROPOSED BIG INDYMEDIA MEETING IN GLASGOW
Proposed that we have a Scotland Indymedia meeting in Glasgow, which we all
try to attend, and also encourage potential new participants to attend.
Maybe we could try and have it at a time and date when people from outside
the central belt, eg Aberdeen, could attend too?  This would be to discuss
and plan for the development of the site.  Could it be combined with
technical training on being an editor, etc., or is that better done
separately?  Whatever, we feel both are needed, to increase participation.
FEEDBACK REQUESTED, especially from Glasgow folk.

INDYMEDIA CENTRE FOR THE G8
We need to start thinking about an indymedia centre for the G8 in
Gleneagles next year.  This is better to be separate from the convergence
centre, for security reasons.  There is an indymedia uk meeting, which
could be one arena to discuss this, in Manchester on 4/5 sept..

INDY UK MEETING IN SCOTLAND?
Suggested that it might be a good idea to host an indy uk meeting in
Scotland, partly because of the usefulness of co-operation in the run-up to
the G8.  FEEDBACK REQUESTED.

INDYMEDIA SCOTLAND NEWS-SHEET?
Suggested that we consider publishing a news-sheet for widespread
distribution, for leaving on buses, in pubs, cafes, community centres,
etc..  This could reach people who do not look up radical sites on the web,
and could spread awareness of the site.  It could perhaps be A3 both sides,
the same format as Counter Information which is likely to be suspending
publication, but perhaps with a less cluttered layout, to make it more
accessible. FEEDBACK REQUESTED.

G8 SPECIAL NEWS-SHEET?
Suggested there is a need for a special news-sheet on the G8 in Scotland,
including history of resistance to the summits, maps, etc..  Needs
discussion on who is the most suitable publisher, reshape/dissent, indy
scotland, joint publication...?  FEEDBACK REQUESTED.

FILM SCREEENINGS
Suggested we investigate more film screenings, possibly in October.  In
Edinburgh the filmhouse can be hired for 50 quid.  One possibility may be
the zapatista film The Colour of the Earth. Obviously there could be
screenings in Glasgow, Aberdeen etc too if people are keen.  FEEDBACK
REQUESTED.

INDY SCOTLAND PREMISES IN EDINBURGH?
Would indymedia scotland would be interested in basing an indy centre with
computers etc in the new premises which the Autonomous Cente of Edinburgh
hope to open up?  I suppose this may be a question in Glasgow too, with the
new Glasgow Autonomous centre?  FEEDBACK REQUESTED


NEXT MEETINGS
Meetings are scheduled for the third wednesday of every month at 7.30pm in
Edinburgh at ACE, 17 W Montgomery Place EH7 5HA, but we hope there will
also be a well advertised meeting in Glasgow in the next couple of months
or so....
