Thanks for that.
Always need to think twice when posting information on asylum seekers,
especially those facing deportation, as such details being made public have
led to confirmed arrests and even deaths in the past. Usually this results
from British government trying to score political points by trumpeting their
tough on bogus asylum seekers stance, combined with mainstream media
coverage (well-meaning or not).
Usually info from an individual campaign or one supported by NCADC is ok,
but again, it is not always best to simply post onto IMC details that have
been emailed to lists of supporters (e.g phone numbers in detention centres
- see email below: I'd take out the whole sentence about her room and phone
number).
Deportations are increasing all the time, due to constraints on legal
representation leading to more cases being refused, and the government
putting more resources into finding, arresting and deporting people who have
been refused asylum. When I get some time, hopefully today, I'll post some
general info on what is happening, illustrated with some recent cases, and
highlighting the new Glasgow No Borders group. Will also try to write up
report of tonight's high profile anti-deportation meeting in Glasgow.
Cheers

Charity Mutebwa - is still in the UK
It was close; plane was only 5 minutes from lift off.
Tuesday 18th October Heathrow Airport
Charity had been on the plane for an hour and had all but given up of
remaining in the UK, as her last conversation with her solicitors just
before she boarded the plane was very negative. They had tried everything
they could but without success. Somehow between that conversation and the
plane ready to take off they managed to find new evidence and lodged a fresh
asylum claim for Charity. Immigration contacted the escorts who were with
Charity on the plane and instructed them to take her off and return her to
detention.
Charity is now in Tynsley House Immigration Removal Centre, Room 14c phone:
01293 ...., she would appreciate calls.
Background: Stop Charity Mutebwa's deportation to Uganda

Subject: [imc-scotland-discussion] charity mutebwa article indy website
dear all
just a quick explanation re the problems with the charity mutebwa article on
indy scotland
she is an asylum seeker , was held in dungavel under imminent threat of
deportation at time of article, has now been moved from dungavel i think and
granted a temporary reprieve from deportation but still under threat
The article on website was based on scotland against criminalising
communities public bulletin
unfortunately this bulletin mistakenly contained some info charity did not
want made public, which was her deportation date and some personal info
following contact from charity, sacc informed us of the situation and we
also got the news from other sources
in view of these problems ab posted dissent to take the article off the page
it should be made clear however that charity was quite happy to see her case
publicised and to have her full name given, the problem was the publication
of the deportation date and a particular piece of personal info
i think we should be able to put something up again next week perhaps, but
obviously we have to double check the content before we do, so should not
rush into it, the views of the asylum seeker herself should obviously be
paramount in deciding what to publish
cheers mike
