[imc-scotland-discussion] imc-scotland-discussion Digest, Vol 55, Issue 7

On the 9th & 10th of February there is the big Indymedia national gathering, think it's Nottingham utilising the SUMAC centre, (sometimes SUMAC actually means round-the-corner-from-SUMAC)......though it happens to clash date-wise with the first ever "Squatmeet", an effort to get all the social centres more interactive, aware of each other, get fund-raising going, amongst a variety of things, and I tend to think it is the more important development, if even on the level of it being a first......wonder if maybe squatmeet should change it's date....there's enough time for them to do that, but then they'd maybe lose their venue of the Common Place.....
  Things to think about,

Following previous discussion, I am making a (really really brief)
summary of what I have got while following the discussions on the new
CMS project.

Since one year ago, during a techmeeting on September 06, sevefral IMC
coders got together and decided that being based on a CMS developed by
one person or two (as it has been the case so far) is completely
unsustainable. Therefore, future coding efforts should focus on existing
CMS platforms which are already based on wider developer communities and
are practically self-maintained.

Anything related to this meeting can be found here:
http://www.techmeet.org/txt/IndymediaCMS2006
while a mailing list was initiated, on which you can subscribe here:
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-cms

Things got a bit slow and there was some slight move on the candidate
CMSs, which at the moment appear to be three: Plone, Drupal and cakephp
(mambo). A very nice summary is here :
http://www.techmeet.org/txt/CMS_Summary

Also, a small Drupal developer community has been built over a mailing
list: http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-drupal-dev

I suggest to tech people who are willing to contribute, to spend some
time getting in contact with the rest of the developing communities, so
that we can avoid double-coded things and organize better.

cheers to everybody

I've just sent this blurb for the January Reshuffle event in Glasgow:

"
Indymedia Scotland
Think all the news is bad? Has nothing to do with what actually matters
where you are? Find out how to use Scotland's truly Independent news
website where YOU make the headlines.
"

Sound good? That's all there is at the moment. Don't know if the venue
has web access or if I'll be doing it with smoke and mirrors :)

But plenty time to think about it. If anyone's in Edinburgh over Xmas
and wants to meet for a coffee or whatever, drop me an email.

Merry Xmas everyone :)
