Camcorder Guerillas presents a selection of films looking at the real life issues facing asylum seekers and their Communities including the latest Guerillas film "Those Left Behind" and the screening of feature film "Tar Angel", an award winning drama by Canadian filmmaker Denis Chouinard.

Asylum Realities by Charlotte Cornic for Scottish Refugee Council

(Scotland, 2006) 25 minutes

Challenging the negatives perceptions of refugees and asylum seekers, the film looks at the lives of three refugees living in Scotland and their integration in their communities.

 

Those Left Behind  by Camcorder Guerillas 

(Scotland, 2007) 11 minutes

What is it like to teach in a school where pupils simply vanish without trace? How do you feel about losing your best mate at school, something you never thought could happen?

What happens when your neighbour of many years disappears over night? 'Those left behind' speaks to some of the people who live in Glasgow's communities where people disappear - without warning.

Followed by short Q&A with filmmakers, participants and representatives from the Asylum Destitution Support Network in Glasgow

It's been three years since Ahmed Kasmi and his family fled the civil war in Algeria. Now settled in Montreal, the Kasmis are just weeks away from getting their Canadian citizenship, the father discovers that his son has been involved in a cyber-terrorist attack on the computers of the federal immigration office.

 

 

 

 

Camcorder Guerillas are a Glasgow-based collective making and showcasing films and documentaries that raise awareness of social justice issues facing our local communities.
