Hello friends,
Last meeting we discussed the new website based on open source CMS
drupal (www.drupal.org). I set up a test site at infoseed.co.uk so
people could report bugs, make suggestions and so on.
This is kind of a heads up so you all know that next meeting I will
propose that we migrate to the new site. There are good reasons to make
the switch:
* Our current software, dadaimc, is unmaintained and completely
stagnant. Unless our site is going to just fester we need to switch to
an actively maintained content management system.
* The drupal community is very active and so the programming burden of
maintenance for IMC scotland in the future will be low, while we benefit
from the drupal community's continuing work.
* The new site has word processor style article editing, meaning that
making text bold, italic, bullet pointed, numbered list, etc and
inserting images and links is as easy as on a word processor.
* The new editor interface is way less clunky, wasting less editors' time.
* Optionally supports openID login (http://openid.net/)
Once we have switched to drupal it will then be much easier to work on
new features for the site. For an idea of the kind of things indymedia
sites have done with drupal, have a look at http://indymedia.be/en
