MINUTES FROM GLASGOW MEETING 28/10/08

Present: Chris, Ben, John C, Euan, Stephen, Leigh (arrived later)


- Agenda

1. Increasing Glasgow Coverage
2. Freesheet Printing

After the agenda was put together Ben then proposed that meeting take
a more casual than formal nature and so a more open discussion then
took place


- Translation

Ben mentions an idea of translating site in Gaelic

Stephen mentions a friend Danny who could do this and will contact him
about this

It was also mentioned that money could be got from Scottish Arts
Council for this kind of thing


- Publicity

John C says that an important part of the website is publicizing it

Ben talks about the Newssheet and the idea that is supposed to try and
help publicize the site more


- Newsheet

John C would like to see a more Glasgow specific version of the
current sheet printed in Glasgow
It was agreed that for the November issue Glasgow would print the
current Scotland-wide sheet
And then for the December issue John C was willing to put together a
Glasgow specific newssheet


- Printing Newssheet

Newssheet agreed to be printed at Clydeside Press

Stephen to phone Tommy about getting a quote to print 1000/2000

John Couzin says he will be able to take 750 to distro

Chris says he knows about 5 or 6 groups of people he could maybe get
to distribute


- Distribution Network

There was a lot of talk about setting up a distribution network
linking up other similar groups that distribute newssheets/flyers in
Glasgow such as the Burgh Angel, Anarchist Critic, Variant, Resistance
(AF), RIB

Chris is going to look into creating an onilne map for distro addresses
Ben is going to look into creating an online database

A lot of potential on this project but agreed this is probably a
separate subject that should probably be discussed seperately at
another time


- End of October

Ben will send PDF to Stephen to print at Tommys

Stephen will distro South West and contact other to distro in Queen's Park area

John C will distro 750

Chris will send an email oout on Glasgow Anarchists list looking for
people to distro

- STUC Anti-Racist march 29th November 08

It was agreed that it would be a good idea to round up people to
distro newssheets at the STUC anti-racist March on St Andrew's Day

The next meeting in Glasgow would be a good date to prepare for this


- Proposed schedule by Glasgow IMC for up coming meetings

November 25th - meeting held in both Glasgow and Edinburgh
December (possibly 16h? tbc at November meeting) - meeting held in
both Glasgow and Edinburgh
January 27th - joint rotated meeting in either Glasgow or Edinburgh

Meetings then to continue rotating as above, 2 monthly meetings
separate then 1 joint

Reasoning behind this is that a localised Glasgow meeting was deemed
to be needed to...

a) work on a localised version of the Indymedia Newsheet

b) and for other localised discussion such as distro and assigning
people to cover events etc.

... but it was also important for both groups to meet up

- Text was received at the end of the meeting from Andy who suggested two things

1. That the Newswire be added to the Google News list

2. Something about broadening the range of content

- Poking people about distribution in Glasgow
- Organising distro at STUC Anti-racist march
- Give admin powers to Ben
- Look into mapping for distro list

Stephen
- Phone Tommy to about printing 1000/2000 newssheets
- to get onto the list serve
- Contact various people about adding articles to the website
- to contact Danny about translating site in Gaelic
- Distro in South area of Glasgow

Ben
- make sure PDF gets sent to Stephen
- Look into the funding situation for printing the newssheets
- Propose meeting schedule to Edinburgh lot
- Look into Delivery Address database stuff
- Get a template of the current newssheet to send to John C

John C

- Put together the Glasgow specific newssheet for December




OTHER POINTS OF INTEREST POST-MEETING

Leigh suggested in the pub possibly having the Glasgow meetings at the
same time as the Subversives social

I spoke to Nick after the meeting, he would like to see 5000 printed
in Glasgow, and reckons Tommy would do them for free
I told him to get in contact with Stephen about arranging this
