I think it is good this list hosted on
http://lists.indymedia.org/
so they can be seen along side other indymedia groups.
Also I am familier with the set and admin of those lists. They have added some
extra module to mailmain. i.e a discard all button, and facility to hide post
from archive. Important with having open archives which is defualt for
indymedia list unless reason to be otherwise,, in spirt of openess that is
meant to be Indymedia principle.
It is good to know that the server that now hosts indymediascotland.org
supports TLS for it's email traffic like lists.indymedia.org
I think Ulla overstates the degree to which hosting list off the general
indymedia infrastructure would be turning back on gloable indymedia network
which indymedia scotland is part. I think there are other aspects to where we
may be falling down a little in this respect that I should have been more on
ball on and this has prompted me but that will be in other email.
Also

editors at imcscotland.org is not really an email list and certain was never
intended to be.
imcscotland.org was brought before our sucessful bid for Indymedia franchise.
In order to host the website in meantime before getting scotland.indymedia.org
in the end it took alot longer to get site running than going through new imc
process. When site was set up I just on wim choose that to be return and
diplayed to address and automatic message that went to each register user with
editor access level. People recieved the email direct via bbc not via that
email address although looking at email it may have seemed that way, but when
site moved from using DadaIMC to Drupel, the automatic fature promotion
messages went just to that email address which I did not realise for a while
untill editor told me that not recieving them, so I set that email address to
forward to active editors I knew of.
I have suggest that use the contatc list instead especially as imcscotland.org
domain won't be renewed unless some on offers to pay fee ($6.95 or $8.88 if
leave till 14 days of expiry date (5 March)).
I have asked those who are active editors of indyemdia scotland to subscribe
to contact list.
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-scotland-contact
If any active editor is not on that list let me know, and I will add you. In
past I sent some invits from list but not everyone follow through to
subscrube, I preffer to send invits to a list rather than sub peopleunless have
specifi agreement to add some to list.
This email was set up as a way for people to email inymedia scotland with
message being archived in open archive like if they email this list, which for
me is preffered way to interact with Indymedia Scotland so more people see
email and responses. but I understand that some people don't wish emails to be
in open archive and also if giving email contact address on flyers should be
private one.
scotland [at] indymedia.org
redirect to that list and was used on poster.
I think it should be given on new flyers if email address given.

If this will be controlling list of donation accounts, then may need to be
carefull, but more on that in later email.

There is a list that was used / intended as a low load annoucement list, that
we would encourage every one we came accross who may be interested in
Indymedia to join if they did not want to join this discussion list.
http://lists.indymedia.org/mailman/listinfo/imc-scotland-information
Its use has lapsed but it still has many subscribers from way back, and worth
sending a message out on it re-introducing Indymedia with the updated site.
If message is created for that list one chould bear in mind people recieving
it will not have recieved any message from Indymedia in a long time so best to
give full introduction.
If we wish to use in future I reckon a link to it should be made from the
sites contact information page.
regards,
Bunny
