Yeah there are some things that can be done to reduce load. Probably the
biggest would be enabling 'block caching', which means that newswire and
events list and other bits of the site that drupal implements as
'blocks' would have their content cached rather than generated every
request.

The problem with this is that stuff posted wouldn't appear on the
newswire immediately. It would take a few minutes. Perhaps I can figure
out how to clear certain block caches on article submission so there is
no delay.

Ultimately though, this won't solve the problem.

I think we should move to alternative hosting because the site is too
often inaccessible.
