[imc-scotland-discussion] report about meeting from Friday

Hia,

we had a quick imc meeting on Friday, though we started about an hour or so 
late, because of hanging out in the cafe beforehand. 

We have summarised that we are lacking people, working computers and reporters 
as well as other tools for an indymedia access centre, but were all happy to 
put some time in.

About the computers working: 
there is a dorkbot workshop on Tuesday at 7pm, where we want to come along to 
engage with the dorkbot people about the computers there and what would be 
possible to do with them, e.g. if the Dell's system could be reinstalled and 
if we could get root access to the other ones.

We were discussing to use twitter for imc scotland as it is possible to rss 
feed the feature headlines for example into twitter, like global indymedia 
does, we also wondered if it is possible to use twitter to do the action 
timeline - as there will be a lack of imc volunteers particularly on Friday 
morning to compile reports, maybe the protesters could do it themselves by sms 
twitter or so? We will try this out and discuss at next meeting.

There was a little discussion about what the # means in twitter and if the use 
of identica would be better or not.

As we did not have the time to get a landline we are thinking of using skype,  
for dispatch. We will try to meet Wednesday evening to prepare for set-up.
We will try to speak to the action room co-ordinator to ask for a meeting with 
him and to talk about the wireless and the internet connection, as well as to 
possibly get root access to the computers.

Another router is possible: current router has 8 slots, 4 of which are used. 
If we would try to add or use different router we might need password, too, 
though 8 slots seem okay for the number of users expected.

It would also be good to try out Live CDs of Linux distro on computers, we 
should label our equipment and do posters and banners and leaflets for imc 
scotland if possible.

We were thinking of meeting today, but as it hasn't been announced on email 
list yet, and at least I haven't had time to do the things I promised yet, it 
did not make sense to meet till tomorrow Tuesday, 7pm to speak with dorkbots 
and till Wednesday to start setting-up centre.
