[imc-sheffield] SURVEY: UK aggregator consultation - deadline 6 July

Indymedia Uk Frontpage Survey / Consulta

Deadline: *July 6th*

At the network meeting in Nottingham 2008, it was discussed that, in
order to represent all content posted to Indymedia sites around the
country, the frontpage should pull together all the posts, creating a UK
frontpage with even more awesome reporting than was already happening.

This was confirmed at the meeting in Bristol this year. As there are
several people working on making these changes happen, we need to find
out what kind of front page the network wants. Technical developments
can easily be led by techs with less technically people not
participating in the process. To create a participatory and inclusive
process and make sure everyone has a say, we came up with this
consultation. We want you to decide the what and how of the aggregation.
We have tried to make this survey accessible to all levels of
understanding, and provide explanations where needed. You can get an
overview of them at
https://docs.indymedia.org/Local/UkIndymediaFrontPageSpec#Definitions_Explanations_and_Exa
but direct links are inserted in the appropriate places below. If we
aren’t making things clear, please let us know and don’t be shy to ask.
You can email imc-uk-network, use IRC or you’re welcome to get in touch
with m3shrom and mara directly, if you don’t want to email the lists, on
uk-aggregator-consulta at indymedia.org

On the first glance it may seem pretty straight forward: We get all the
articles and put them in one wire. But there’s a whole bunch of
questions that need to be answered. Is the actual article duplicated,
and displayed on the indymedia.org.uk website, or do we want to link to
the original? How are features made? How does moderation work? How do we
create a good navigation and allow people to find articles they are
interested in, about a certain topic or region, or from a certain date?

**** Crabgrass survey
-----------------------------

You can participate in the consulta by using the survey that is up on
crabgrass. Crabgrass is a platform of organising tools created by the
awesome folks at riseup. A lot of local collectives have groups on
there, and it was used for writing UK features while docs was down, so
you may already have a login.

To fill in the survey, you will have to create a login at we.riseup.net,
and join either of the following groups or the UK network:

https://we.riseup.net/uk-network | https://we.riseup.net/imc-uk |
https://we.riseup.net/nottsimc | https://we.riseup.net/imc-london |
https://we.riseup.net/birmingham-indymedia |
https://we.riseup.net/imc-northern | https://we.riseup.net/bristolindymedia

Once you are logged in and a member of one of these groups, you can
proceed to go to:

https://we.riseup.net/uk-network/imc-uk-aggregator-consulta

You will come to a page that doesn't actually let you do anything, but
gives an overview of all the questions. To fill in the survey, click on
"Take Survey" below the title. To save your answers, click "respond" at
the bottom of the page.

If you start filling it in and want to finish it later, or change your
mind after responding, you can always go back to "Take Survey" and can
either edit your response or delete it and start over, but please
remember that the deadline is *July 6th* - any changes after that may
not be represented in the evaluation.

If you do experience any problems with any of this, please do get in
touch and let us know. Crabgrass can be a bit confusing, but we'll do
our best to sort out any problems.

If you aren't comfortable with using crabgrass, you can also:

3a) How should the aggregated newswire of the UK Imc frontpage be moderated?
This is a bit of an open question as there are many different combinations
of way in which the front page newswire could be moderated. You can leave
more than one.

* Only feeds of promoted wires are pulled in from local and mir newswires
* Unmoderated newsfeeds is pulled in, and articles are hidden by pulling
an hidden article feed
* Unmoderated newsfeeds is pulled in, and articles are hidden by both
sites decisions being made on imc-uk-moderation and local imc list
(unless post is clearly spam / bonkers)

newswire (moderation guideline needed)

7) Newswire content from other cool feeds: there’s lots of other cool
media projects, would they be pulled in as well if they are solidarity
with the Indymedia POU and agreed as part of an IMC UK process? (e.g.
Schnews…)

* no, we should only include Indymedia sites
* yes, we should have a separate wire for other cool media groups
* yes, we should pull in everyone who wants to be part of the syndicated
page and meets POU
