----------
The St. Louis Police Department is undergoing a process of national
accreditation. As part of the process, there will be a public hearing on
Monday. The Coalition Against Police Crimes and Repression urges your
attendance. This is an excellent forum for expressing community concerns. We
probably can not affect the outcome of the accreditation process, since
CALEA is most interested during this phase in establishing sound policies
rather than looking at past problems. But our description of problems will
be part of the record, and will be used in three years when CALEA reviews
the Department to see if it has truly instituted reforms. Therefore, your
opinions are vital. If you have found IAD unresponsive, investigations
incomplete, or have had any other interactions with the Department which you
think are significant, please attend. Or if you do not wish to speak, please
come as evidence of community concern.
